For the past year Governor Chet Culver has been under investigation for questionable campaign contributions from the Diamond Jo Casino, controlled by Peninsula Gaming. As of late, Governor Culver has been pressured by the GOP to return tens of thousands in campaign contributions from a private businessman in Rhode Island.

Peninsula Gaming, owner of the Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque, Iowa, has been charged with making political contributions in another persons name, a crime in Iowa. Culver is being investigated, to discover if he knowingly accepted political contributions through a third party, which is illegal in Iowa. Peninsula Gaming responded to the charges by saying, "Peninsula has, during its 11 year history, always adhered to the highest standards of regulatory compliance and ethical business practices and has an impeccable record of responsibility and excellence in the gaming industry. We look forward to a positive resolution of this matter. " Any further requests for a statement has not been responded to.
