On Thursday 24th November 2011 the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA) issued a media release stating that as from Saturday 26th November, people will be allowed to access Cathedral Square on foot. The tours will be on weekends only and will finish on the 11th December. This is due to upcoming demolition work in the area.
Details of Public Access to Cathedral Square
The CERA update stated that the Christchurch public will be able to visit the area between 9am and 8pm each weekend and numbers are limited to 300 per hour. The city is still experiencing aftershocks and for this reason, the public are being warned that it is still dangerous to enter the red zone.
